Alpha v0.8

October 6, 2026

New

  • Fishing. Buy a pole from Ambry in Minoc (15 gold), double-click it and cast into any water. Lakes and the sea hold different fish, deep water hides bigger catches and the odd message in a bottle, and a fished-out spot refills in time. The Fishing skill rises as you cast.
  • A secret in the water. Something pale is said to rise in one still pool at night. Rue at the tavern may know more. Whoever lands it first takes it, and it's gone for everyone until it returns.
  • Your companion gives advice. In the Deeps the scroll now follows the run live: the wave, what's coming, and how many lanterns, sluices or seals are left. Once you know the Deeps, your companion takes over and calls it in their own voice. Ask any companion "advice", anywhere.
  • F8 sends what you saw. A feedback note now carries a screenshot and what you were doing (where you were, your stats and gear, what was nearby, the last two minutes), so the keepers can see what went wrong. Other players' words are never included.

Changed

  • No more stuns. Every move that used to freeze you now slows you: you can always walk and fight back. A slow halves your feet and your swings, shots and spells for 1.5 to 3 seconds; you'll see "slowed 50%" overhead and a SLOWED chip above your hotbar.
  • Holds are short. A stagger is a blink (0.3 seconds), and a root holds your feet, never your hands, for at most a second. A second hold within ten seconds lasts half as long, then you're briefly immune.
  • Moves that lost their stun hit harder. Shield Charge 110% (slam 140%), Shoulder Bash now deals damage, Earthshaker 150%, Grapple's throw strikes and slows, Pinning Shot roots a second then slows (60% against stone). Second Wind shakes off slows. Paralyze can now be resisted, and any hit breaks it.
  • Monsters have teeth. Rats, ratmen, the undead and orcs take a proper exchange of blows and hit somewhat harder. The Watcher in the Stones is a real first boss, and Deep I can kill a careless delver.
  • Companions carry half a share. They're still valuable, but their attacks now weigh about half a player's instead of doubling your damage.
  • A clean status bar. The status bar shows only health, mana and stamina, as in the classic client. Your name and skills live in the character status, paperdoll and skills windows.
  • Tips you can close. Control tips close on a click or Esc, fade after a few seconds and stay gone once you've done the thing. Options › Show tips brings them back.
  • Passwords for new accounts. New accounts need a password of at least six characters. Older accounts without one can add one from the character screen.

Fixed

  • The Warden speaks once. His greeting in the Deeps no longer prints twice.
  • Tam's bedroll. The shepherd's bedroll on the Long Hill is a real bedroll again.
