Alpha v0.9.0

October 7, 2026

New

  • Anyone can kill you, anywhere. Player killing is possible everywhere: in towns, on the roads, in dungeons and down in the Deeps. Your corpse holds everything you carried, and anyone can take from it. Only your spellbook stays with you, and the spells you know are never lost. Your bank box is always safe.
  • Calling the guards. Guards no longer attack on sight. They come when someone calls them: say any line with the word guards in it (ghosts can too), or a townsperson calls them when they see a crime. The offender must be grey or red, within about 12 steps, and inside the town's guarded area. The guard strikes hard and fast, then goes back to their post.
  • Coloured ore in the Deeps. The eight coloured metals, dull copper, shadow iron, copper, bronze, gold, agapite, verite and valorite, are dug from seams on the Deeps' floors. You need Mining 65 for the first metals and 99 for valorite. Smelt at a forge on the surface, then make weapons and armour in that metal's colour, with a small boost.
  • Weight. Everything you carry weighs something. You can carry 40 + 3.5 × Strength stones, shown on your status window. Over that you can only walk, and well over it you can't move. A pile of ore weighs 12 stones and an ingot 0.1, so smelt to lighten up. A miner with a full pack of coloured ore is slow, heavy and worth taking.

Changed

  • Blue, grey and red apply everywhere. Attacking or looting an innocent makes you grey for 2 minutes; killing one is a murder, and five murders make you red. Anyone may attack a grey or red. Fighting back is never a crime. To attack an innocent you must be in war mode (Tab).
  • Friends stay friends. Your blows, arrows and spells pass through party members and your hired companions. Strangers in the Deeps are no longer automatically on your side.
  • Young protection is for the surface only. For your first 3 hours, other players can't harm you on Britannia's surface. In dungeons and the Deeps it doesn't protect you. It ends the moment you attack a player or commit a crime.
  • The Deepheart Lantern can be lost. It falls onto your corpse with everything else.
  • Quieter townsfolk. People speak up unasked far less often, but anything you ask is answered straight away. Rue tells one local rumour at a time and sells a tip for 50 gold (say "Rue, tip"). Ask anyone "How do I mine?" and similar for the real steps.
